Every person in a company can get involved at different levels to limit excess and waste of all kinds in their company. But even before engaging in a long-term eco-friendly strategy, there are many simple actions that we could do on a daily basis, which we still often forget.

Do research on the Internet, store data, send an email - these everyday actions seem trivial but represent a real pollution problem. According to a Greenpeace report, the pollution generated by the Internet industry and its impact on the climate are equivalent to those of the aviation sector. Even if we don’t feel like flying to Hawaii when writing emails to customers...

Here are some tips to reduce the climate impact of your company’s net traffic:

Regarding your mailbox, delete the spams and limit collective mailings that multiply the environmental impact of your email - who really wants to go for their cousin’s birthday on the other side of town this weekend?

Encourage Human Interaction.

No need to send an email to a colleague if you can give information verbally, especially when physically speaking to your colleague might just lead you to all the gossip about that new employee (Nicole bought her 123rd pair of shoes this week).

Offload Unnecessary Email.

Delete a maximum of attachments saved in your mailbox and which you no longer need, and sends attachments as light as possible - Giselle and her cat photos need to stop.

Don’t Live in the Past.

More generally, while surfing the Internet, close as much as possible unused tabs, and empty your browsing history - Nobody has to know that you are looking for the best place to buy a new vacuum, we know it’s going to suck.

Don’t Repeat.

Delete the downloads that you no longer need to store on your computer, and make lists of favorites to avoid repeating the same search several times.

Plant Trees by Searching.

Did you also know that you can plant trees or finance solidarity projects while you search the web? Instead of using Google, download a new search engine such as Ecosia or Lilo so that all your colleagues can support social and environmental actions from their desk chair. They will use the income they make from search ads we generate from our web search, to finance sustainable projects.

Power Off.

It’s not enough to put your computer to sleep. Turn off your computer and switch off the mains. This way, you’re saving unnecessary electricity use.
